The Charlotte Chapter visits with Jenna Abbott, Executive Director of the WCAA National Board

On October 18th, the Charlotte Board was privileged to meet with the WCAA National Executive Director, Jenna Abbott and CHF CEO Jeanelle Dech and CHF instructor Terri Booser at Trio's restaurant in Pineville. The board had an opportunity to share ideas, ask questions and get some insight as to what is going on at the National level. Marilyn Croteau shared "She listened and responded very thoughtfully to our suggestions". It is always encouraging for a Chapter to receive National attention.

October meeting with Anne Simpkins

On October 1st, the Charlotte Chapter held it's monthly meeting at the Mint Hill Library. We started the meeting with ballots for the election of officers. Members that were in attendance voted at the meeting, absent members will vote via email. A list of the members that made a written vote will be compared to the email vote making sure that everyone gets one vote only.

Elaine Mitchell shared that the work orders for the Dove House are arriving and they have sent additional rooms. Therefore, we have need for additional help. Contact Elaine if you are interested.

Lurene Ulrich won our door prize, a pair of scones from Whispar Innovations. A really cool invention that allows draperies to be fed from the bottom up to make a column or the sconce will hold a drapery rod from the side.

Jane Ann Maxwell announced that we have a new Facebook page and blog. She asked for help with content for both and encouraged members that are not participating in the online community to do so. The Facebook page can be searched by WCAA Charlotte Chapter and the blog can be found at http://www.wcaacharlotte.blogspot.com/.

Finally, our speaker was the delightful Anne Simpkins. She is the president of the Charlotte Chapter of the AIDP. The title of her talk was "Why the AIDP today?" She shared the unique position of the organization in todays market and she shared bits and snippets of her own personal experience and how it has led to the AIDP. She also shared the coming events and meetings that will be held by the organization and invited our members to come be a part of this dynamic new group.

October Meeting Reminder

On October 1st, we will meet at the Mint Hill Library at 6:30pm, to enjoy Anne Simkins of AIDP.

The AIDP is the Association of Interior Design Professionals. Anne is the Charlotte Chapter president and she will share with us information about this dynamic organization. We will also hold elections so don't miss it!

September meeting featuring Connexion for Design

Our September meeting, held at United Supply, was terrific! Marilyn Croteau and the membership team unveiled the new brochure and guest passes for us to give out to prospective members. Pam Dawes updated the chapter with news. Members were encouraged to bring a "pattern of the month" to upcoming meetings. Finally, the chapter heard from Katy Garrett the owner of Connexions for Design. Katy has developed a comprehensive software system that posts your entire business online, safely and securely, to allow you to run your business from anywhere in the world. More than that, it tracks jobs, vendors, schedules, selections, and more. The program will integrate Quick Books after the first of the year and the purchase is a monthly service fee. All in attendence were impressed by Katy's program and lively question and answer session followed.
